color red

color red
For years on end, I have worn the color red for occasions of all kinds, including in the office, for weddings, and such. Shorts, ties, t-shirts, you name it and I probably wore it, in the color red. This color is popular in designs, including ensign-designs, as it stands out boldly when flown from poles and posts, including American flagpoles. This article describes a few concepts in regards to this color, its uses and a number of representations.

Interestingly, the word red is associated with the color of blood in English. In the Sanskrit language, the word "redhira" actually means red or blood. Red is associated not with the color of blood alone, but also flowers and fruits.

I have asked folks what they would think of first when pondering the color red. The planet Mars is an answer that was more popular than others since Mars is called the "red planet." The planet's reddish color is most dominant in terms of its surface. The reason for this is the iron oxide that is very much present in the planet's surface material.

Red has also been used symbolically, in different books, including the Holy Bible. It is said to represent anger, passion and sin. At times, this color has also been connected to more explicit concepts. This color is associated to many different things, at times making it confusing to those learning that the color might very well have two opposite meanings.

This special color has also been used as a representation of courage, and sacrifice. Flags of many countries will feature the red color in their ensign-design, in which the color represents sacrifice of the country's patriots. No what the weather conditions are like, this color can easily be spotted when hoisted on tall flagpoles.

Unlike other colors, red seems to capture people's attention easily. It is used in more of negative manner at times to indicate (potentially) dangerous situations, but also in a positive manner when used for purposes of advertising and such. In comparison to all the other colors we have, the color red probably carries the strongest reaction. As a result of the latter this color is for different purpose of signaling, including lights and signs.

As far as the different cultures and the color red are concerned, red symbolizes (for example) fire in China. Most Chinese experience this color in a positive manner, as this color is being associated with positive attributes and feelings, including courage and success.
